Gaia Servadio talks about her latest book “I viaggi di Dio”

On the occasion of the Holocaust Remembrance International Day Gaia Servadio talks about her life, her family, Italian Jewry and her latest book I viaggi di Dio.

Gaia Servadio traces the many journeys of God in His native land of Mesopotamia and stops at Dura Europos on the Eufrates (Syria) where she spent time with the Syro-French Archaeological Mission of the ENS (Ecole Normale Supérieure).

She will speak about the gods and the temples, and of the famous frescoed Synagogue, showing several images of the site.

"God on a voyage, God travelling with Man, a touring divinity, God on the Silk Road or on the bow of a ship, in the tempest or in silence, God travelling on the wings of the myth, on the frenzy of war, in the peace of the soul. God is a mysterious necessity for mankind."

Gaia Servadio starts from the walls of the ancient Syrian city of Dura Europos to set off, with her characteristic grace and depth, on a journey into spirituality throughout the centuries.

Gaia Servadio is an italian writer living in London since 1956. She has lectured in the most prestigious universities from Oxford to Cambridge to Bologna. She has written for the major Italian and British dailies and weeklies and is a regular broadcaster for radio and TV in both Italy and Uk.) She travelled on lecture tours for the Italian Foreign Ministry, was awarded the honour of Commendatore al merito della Repubblica Italiana, took part to several literary festivals. Most of her 30 books (fiction and non-fiction) have been translated all over the world.
