Artist’s run spaces

Artist’s run spaces

This talk will discuss the reasons behind the proliferation of artist-run spaces in London and abroad. These spaces operate in the same context as other art spaces – commercial galleries, public institutions, private foundations and not-for-profit spaces – yet they use collaboration, self-organisation and cooperation in very different ways.
We will explore how artistic alliances permit new models of display and create diverse channels of reception. Considering the recent exhibition at LIMONE, a project space in East London founded in 2016 by artists Michela de Mattei and Diego Miguel Mirabella, we will ask its founders and two emerging international artists, Johann Arens and Calixto Ramirez, to talk us through the new ways of making exhibitions in times of increasing institutionalisation.
The talk is moderated by Lucia Pietroiusti, Curator at Serpentine Galleries.

The talk is held on the occasion of the exhibition “Rosina#1 Spectrum”, curated by Giuliana Benassi, on display at LIMONE from 13th to 21st January.
