Film-documentary "Alla ricerca di Europa" ("Looking for Europe")

A film-documentary introduced by director Alessandro Scillitani (Italy, 2019, 63’).

The year 2019 is crucial for the destiny of Europe, with the Parliament elections in May and Brexit getting closer. Exactly when the foundations of the cohesion of the old continent seem to tremble, a special journey across sea, between Greece and Turkey, chases the origin myth of Europe through old legends and new fears. The acclaimed film-documentary Alla Ricerca di Europa (Looking For Europe), directed by Alessandro Scillitani with Piero Tassinari, late Professor and historian of the University of Cardiff and writer and journalist Paolo Rumiz, will be exceptionally screened at the Italian Cultural Institute in London.

«I met Piero Tassinari a few years ago at Paolo Rumiz’s place. We talked about sea journeys, lighthouses, lost wonders. One day Piero suggested an idea. He, who moved from Trieste to Galles, felt the urge to tell to his students what Europe is about, what they will lose once the Brexit will be completed. He wrote to me: “I want to tell a story, but I need to do it quickly. I pick up chemotherapy, my time is short”. So we set off with the mythological ship Moya. Paolo Rumiz were among us. As usual I tried to conceal myself, I wanted to report more than anything else what was happening on that ship, symbolically transmuted into the bull that carries Europe, and in the islands we reached. I was enchanted listening to the stories, the tales and the ideas of Piero». Alessandro Scillitani.
