From "Un ballo in maschera" and "L’arlesiana" to Strauss and Sondheim, Dr Susan Rutherford of the University of Manchester, Professor Martin Butler of the University of Sussex, David Benedict, Anna Picard and BBC Radio 3’s Donald Macleod investigate mothers good, bad and ambiguous.
