Risorgimento strumentale: Wolf-Ferrari & Tchaykovsky

THE CYCLE

Started in 2018, “Risorgimento strumentale” (Instrumental Renaissance) explores the valiant composers who succeeded in reinvigorating Italian instrumental music in the late nineteenth century and in the first half of the twentieth by rediscovering the diverse and luxuriant heritage of Italian and European pre-Romantic music and merging it with Romantic innovations, avant-garde research and modern instrumental technique.

THE PROGRAMME OF THE CYCLE

14 February
Busoni & Sibelius. Debussy & Casella - Cello and piano
3 April
Alfredo Casella & Ildebrando Pizzetti – Violin, cello and piano
11 April

EIGHTH EPISODE
ERMANNO WOLF-FERRARI & PYOTR ILICH TCHAYKOVSKY - VIOLIN AND PIANO

While waiting for Wolf-Ferrari’s “Il segreto di Susanna (Susanna’s Secret)” and Tchaikovsky’s “Iolanta” on stage next summer (22 July-3 August), the Italian Cultural Institute in London with the support of Opera Holland Park is happy to draw a more comprehensive portrait of each author by pairing Tchaikovsky’s masterpieces for violin and piano and the earliest, vibrant, romantically luring work composed by Wolf-Ferrari for the same challenging instrumental duo.

Programme
Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari, Sonata for violin e piano n. 1 op. 1
Pyotr Tchaikovsky, “Souvenir d’un lieu cher” for violin e piano op. 42
