Händel’s Partenope and Arcadia

Händel’s Partenope and Arcadia

To herald HGO’s production of Georg Friedrich Händel’s “Partenope” (Jacksons Lane Theatre, Highgate, London, 17 to 26 May 2019), HGO and the Italian Cultural Institute in London are happy to present this acclaimed masterpiece premiered in 1730, to compare it with the numerous operatic works composed to the homonymous libretto written in 1699 by Arcadian poet Silvio Stampiglia, and to examine the formidable, enduring, worldwide influence the Accademia dell'Arcadia (Academy of Arcadia) exerted on the eighteenth-century melodrama.

The event will include a small concert with some pieces from Händel’s “Partenope” and other famous operas composed to Italian libretti by the same author.
