Social Antimafia: meet Luigi Ciotti, founder of Libera

Meet Luigi Ciotti founder of “Libera Contro le Mafie“, an organisation that promotes the use of land and assets seized from the Mafia to set up local food cooperatives, anti-drug projects and community centres, as well as seeking to provide employment for those sidelined by organised crime.
In this talk with Davide Palmisano, the founder of Libera will explain his 25-year long fight against organised crime through community empowerment and social entrepreneurship.

Libera includes associations, cooperatives, social organizations, schools, unions and churches in an effort to challenge the power of corruption and criminality while promoting social justice, human rights and constitutional equality. It is present on the Italian territory through 20 regional councils and 278 local associations. Libera Internazionale has a network of 80 associations in 35 countries among Europe, Africa and South America.

Don Luigi Ciotti is an Italian priest who is strongly involved in the fight against criminal organisations;
his social work started in 1965 on founding the Abele group with a focus on helping drug addicts.
He founded Libera on the 25th of March 1995.

Davide Palmisano, activist and volunteer for Libera since 2015, is the spokesperson in London for CHANCE, “Civil Hub Against Organised Crime in Europe” and son of Marcello Palmisano, journalist and Mafia victim.
