Book launch: From the generation to the individual: a portrait of Pier Vittorio Tondelli, by Olga Campofreda

Over just one decade, the bestselling author Pier Vittorio Tondelli witnessed through his novels and his articles the many faces of Italian society, moving from the countercultural Seventies through the years of the mass culture. Translated in French and English, very much loved among the youth, he died of AIDS on the 16th of December 1991 in the town of Correggio (Emilia Romagna), at the age of 36.

Olga Campofreda's Dalla generazione all’individuo. Giovinezza, identità, impegno nell’opera di Pier Vittorio Tondelli (Mimesis 2020) is the latest study about an author who experienced a very problematic relationship with the literary canon: often regarded just as a generational writer or a homosexual writer, Tondelli’s work has never been questioned beyond these two categories.

In the Thirtieth anniversary of his death, Olga Campofreda (PhD, UCL) joins in conversation Enrico Palandri (writer, Professor of Modern European Literature, UCL and Ca' Foscari) and Giorgia Tolfo (FILL festival coordinator) discussing Tondelli’s legacy and his universal discourse on the issue of individual identity.
