Gli Ospiti

Marco Magini in conversation with Paolo Nelli

We are pleased to welcome Italian author Marco Magini, who will present his latest book Gli Ospiti (Solferino) in conversation with writer Paolo Nelli

An Italian young man, living and working abroad, and a Turkish young woman, who wishes to keep living in her home country, fall in love and move in together, in Istanbul. Life is sweet, and love overcomes some cultural differences. But then, against the background of the Gezi Park protests, the two protagonists will follow very different and eventually tragic directions. A novel about love and disillusionment, a portrait of a generation, the thirty-somethings, who do not believe in the power of rebelling and changing the status quo. Or do they?

MARCO MAGINI was born in Arezzo in 1986. He lives in London, where he founded an International consulting firm specialised in projects on climate change and sustainability. He is one of the founders and curators of FILL, the Festival of Italian Literature in London. His debut work Come fossi solo received a honourable mention at the Premio Calvino 2013 and was shortlisted for the Premio Strega 2014.

PAOLO NELLI was born in Brianza in northern Italy in 1968. He lives in London, where he currently teaches Italian Language and Culture at King's College London. He has written short stories and novels, including his first one La fabbrica di paraurti (1999), Golden boot (2012), Trattato di economia affettiva (2018) and the latest one Il terzo giorno, published in 2020 by La Nave di Teseo.
