Teaching Italian in English and Welsh universities

In order to support the promotion of the Italian language at a University level, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs appoints language assistants to foreign Universities and offers grants to cover the costs. The teachers are selected among the secondary schools (1st and 2nd grade) personnel.

The language assistants often collaborate with the local Italian Cultural Institutes thus becoming real “cultural figures”.

During the academic year 2004-2005, 275 language assistants have been appointed abroad. The Ministry also gives foreign Universities grants to support the departments of Italian and to hire local teachers. To this respect a particular attention has been given to Eastern European, Central-South American and African Universities, which did not have language assistants.

Teaching Italian at the Italian Cultural Institute in London

The Italian Cultural Institute organizes Italian courses through a society called Italian Language Services, which coordinates the recruitment of the teachers. CVs, applications and cover letters can be emailed to:

Italian schools abroad

At present there are no Italian schools in the UK and, therefore, no teaching positions. The Education Departments of the Consulates organizes courses of Italian language and culture at primary and secondary schools. These courses are taught by teachers with experience of teaching Italian or a foreign language in Italy. These positions are usually advertised in newspapers (Education section), magazines or in the schools websites.
