Mario Desiati in conversation with Stefano Jossa

Mario Desiati narrates Italy’s generation of born in the 70s and 80s, their world of precarious work, uncertain identity and sexual instability, whose imagination is publicly generated rather than privately driven.Mario Desiati hails from Martina Franca but lives in Rome. He has published with Mondadori a number of novels, including Vita precaria e amore eterno, Il paese delle spose infelici (that inspired the film with the same title by Pippo Mezzapesa), Ternitti (finalist for the Strega Prize 2011), Il libro dell’Amore proibito and Mare di zucchero. His latest book is a short biographical memoir, La notte dell'Innocenza, Heysel 1985, memoria di una tragedia (Rizzoli, 2015).Stefano Jossa is Reader in Italian at Royal Holloway University of London. He has published extensively on the Italian Renaissance and the Italian national identity expressed through literature. He is the author of L'Italia letteraria (Il Mulino, 2006) and Un paese senza eroi. L’Italia da Jacopo Ortis a Montalbano (Laterza, 2013). Most recently, he has co-edited and co-authored (together with Claudia Boscolo) Scritture di resistenza. Sguardi politici dalla narrativa italiana contemporanea (Carocci, 2014).The event is in Italian with English live translation.
