Simonetta Agnello Hornby presents her new book

Simonetta Agnello Hornby will talk with John Lloyd about her latest novel, the best-seller, Caffè Amaro (published in Italy by Feltrinelli), a story of love and eroticism set in Sicily.

Simonetta Agnello Hornby was born in Palermo, Sicily. She has lived in London for over 30 years, working as a family lawyer: in 1979 she co-founded Hornby & Levy, the first law firm specialized in cases of violence within the family, which published in 1997 The Caribbean’s Children Law Project, a study that is still unique today. Simonetta has been President of the Special Educational Needs and Disability Tribunal for 8 years. Her first book The Almond Picker (Penguin) was an international best seller, translated in twelve languages, winner of many literary awards. Her book The Nun won the Italian Pen Prize in 2011. In addition to her novels, she has written on Italian food and culinary traditions.

John Lloyd is a contributing editor to the Financial Times. His other posts in journalism include spells as editor of Time Out and editor of the New Statesman. He writes a weekly column for and contributes regularly to La Repubblica of Rome. He is a supernumerary fellow of St Anne’s College and an associate member of Nuffield College, both Oxford. He is chairman of the advisory committee of the Moscow School of Political Studies. His awards for journalism include the British Press Award for Specialist Reporter of the Year, the Granada Award for Journalist of the Year and the David Watt Prize for outstanding journalism.
