Paolo Rumiz presents Il Ciclope

Paolo Rumiz presents Il Ciclope

Paolo Rumiz makes a welcome return to the Institute to talk about one of his latest books, Il Ciclope (Feltrinelli, 2015), in conversation with Alberto Rollo.

The talk will be spaced out with readings, in Italian and in English, of some extracts from Il Ciclope, and from his previous works (Fault Line, Come cavalli che dormono in piedi, Appia), translated and read by Gregory Conti.

Il Ciclope. A book about travels, especially the ones that let you discover yourself: three weeks on a small Mediterranrean island with only the nature and the lighthouse’s keeper for company. The author does not give us the name of the island but we can follow a large number of clues to discover it. A still and introspective travel, in a place without distractions, away from the Internet, the media, then the senses will improve, the nature and the toughts will fit with new and different meanings.

Paolo Rumiz is an Italian journalist and writer. Reporter for "Il Piccolo" and columnist for "La Repubblica", covering the events of the Balkans during the ‘90s. He has published extensively with Feltrinelli, including Trans Europa Express (2012), Morimondo (2013), Come cavalli che dormono in piedi (2014), Il ciclope (2015) and Appia (2016).

Alberto Rollo was born in Milan in 1951. He currently is Editorial Director at Baldini & Castoldi Editore after serving for twenty-two years Giangiacomo Feltrinelli Editore in various positions. He has written for the theater and has made documentaries for television. He is the author of the memoir Un'educazione milanese (Manni Editore, 2016).

Gregory Conti teaches English at the University of Perugia. He has translated, among others, Rosetta Loy, Emilio Lussu, and Paolo Rumiz.
