On Raphael #3 - Raffaello and his writing, the complexity of an artist

On the occasion of the forthcoming 500th anniversary of the death of Raphael, the Italian Cultural Institute celebrates this great artist. The Institutes organises a series of talks with curators, artists, and critics, both Italian and British, and a photography exhibition to explore the connections between Raphael’s art and the contemporary era.

Raffaello and his writing, the complexity of an artist”, the third talk of the series will focus on a less conventional side of Raphael; that is his writing production. Scholar Stefano Jossa will discuss this topic.

Stefano Jossa is Reader in Italian at Royal Holloway, University of London. He specialises in the Italian Renaissance and the Italian national identity expressed through literature. He held Visiting Professorships at the Polytechnic (ETH) of Zurich (Switzerland - De Sanctis Chair, 2017), the University of Parma (Italy, 2017) and the University of Roma Tre (Italy, 2018). He has written L’Italia letteraria (Il Mulino, 2006) e L’Italia da Jacopo Ortis a Montalbano (Laterza, 2013). He has recently been editor and co-author, with Claudia Boscolo, of Scritture di resistenza. Sguardi politici dalla narrativa italiana contemporanea (Carocci, 2014).
