The forth talk of the series 'Project and Destiny: Reflections on design and architecture in Italy today'.

2018 marks the centennial of the birth of Achille Castiglioni. A year full of events around the world, to pay tribute to one of the greatest and highly influential master of design. How can the immense archive of Fondazione Achille Castiglioni be of use to generate an infinite narrative? Can it be considered a starting point for the future? On 9 August 2004 the archive of Achille Castiglioni was listed as cultural heritage of particular importance by the Superintendent of Archives of Lombardy and Fondazione Achille Castiglioni was appointed for the conservation and archiving of all the materials that were produced and gathered during the professional career of Achille Castiglioni, with the aim of spreading knowledge of the architect and his work, protecting and utilizing the historic studio in Milan at Piazza Castello 27.

Since 2005 she has been the curator of Studio Museo Achille Castiglioni, and in 2012 she was appointed as Vice-President and Secretary General of Fondazione Achille Castiglioni. Today she coordinates the activities of archiving of the cultural heritage of the Foundation and explains the Castiglioni's method to an audience of varied ages, cultures and interests, from all over the world. She conducts conferences for the Foundation in Italy and abroad, and experiments with young designers on the creation of exhibitions to make the studio into a living, transformable museum. For the centennial of the birth of Achille Castiglioni she has created the project 100x100 Achille curated by Chiara Alessi and Domitilla Dardi; she has also taken part in the curating for the exhibition “Achille Castiglioni visionario” at the Max Museum of Chiasso, Switzerland, on the relationship of work and friendship between her father and the graphic designer Max Huber, and of the exhibition A Castiglioni at the Milan Triennale, with exhibit design by Patricia Urquiola in collaboration with Federica Sala. She has been a professor and assistant at the Milan Polytechnic, conducted workshops for the Scuola Politecnica di Design SPD in Milan, and for IED, in 2018, she lectured on the Castiglioni's method.

After joining Zaha Hadid Architects in 2003 as Press and Public Relations Officer, in 2008 she took on the responsibility of the Exhibitions and Archives Department. She has been instrumental in conceiving the fundamental strategy for both the present and future management of the physical and digital archives of the practice, and developing their customized databases. Her liaison with external organisations and third parties allows ZHA to share the collection through catalogues and exhibitions globally. As Head of Exhibitions and Archives, Manon is responsible for every aspect of exhibition planning; controlling all financial and legal as well as logistical agreements, overseeing the installation and dismantling of exhibitions, securing all loans to third parties with renowned institutions such as The State Hermitage, the Venice Biennale and the Royal Academy. Manon also holds editorial control over all exhibition catalogues and exhibition related marketing material.
