Leonardo da Vinci: lecture

A lecture about the early years of Leonardo's career and a silverpoint workshop directed by professor Alan Pascuzzi.

To mark the 500th anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci’s death, the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford will host two events about the great artist, led by artist and historian Alan Pascuzzi:

• Lecture Leonardo. The early years, Friday 8 November, 1–2pm [BOOK NOW]

• Leonardo Silverpoint workshop, Sunday 10 November, 10:30–1:30pm [BOOK NOW]

The talk will explore the initial years of Leonardo’s career. A closer examination of his early drawings reveals that he followed a traditional Renaissance apprenticeship under his master Andrea Verrocchio.

Then, in the course of the workshop, the inner secrets of Leonardo's drawing techniques will be explored by making silverpoints, preparing paper with natural bone-meal emulsion and making a copy of one of Leonardo's silverpoint drawings. Leonardo da Vinci was in fact one of the greatest draftsmen of the Renaissance and executed some of his most important drawings using the technique of silverpoint and red chalk.
