Event in presence
Free admission, booking essential
Claudio Pavone (1920–2016) is widely considered to have been one of Italy’s greatest and most influential historians. His 1991 masterpiece Una guerra civile: saggio storico sulla moralità nella resistenza changed the Italian historical landscape, and has had a lasting influence on generations of historians – including the speaker.
In this lecture Prof. Philip Cooke, who knew Pavone well, will offer a broad and accessible introduction to his writings, and also examine his role as a ‘public’ historian.
Philip Cooke is Professor of Italian History and Culture at the University of Strathclyde.
