{"id":8162,"date":"2024-07-26T17:06:16","date_gmt":"2024-07-26T15:06:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/iiclondra.esteri.it\/?p=8162"},"modified":"2024-07-29T15:51:19","modified_gmt":"2024-07-29T13:51:19","slug":"emerging-translator-mentorships-2024-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iiclondra.esteri.it\/it\/news\/dall_istituto\/2024\/07\/emerging-translator-mentorships-2024-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"Emerging Translator Mentorships 2024\/2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Applications for the 2024\/25 programme are now open.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ICI London<\/strong> is delighted to support this initiative by the <strong>National Centre of Writing (NCW)<\/strong> for <strong>emerging translators<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Founded by Daniel Hahn in 2010, NCW\u2019s translation mentoring programme aims to develop successive new cohorts of literary translators into English, particularly for languages whose literature is currently under-represented in English translation.<\/p>\n<p>National Centre for Writing (NCW) has announced the languages for its 2024\/25 Emerging Translator Mentorships programme, including a new mentorship offer for applicants who identify as chronically ill and a mentorship for translators of Faroese into English.\u00a0Now in its fifteenth year, the programme aims to develop successive new cohorts of literary translators into English, particularly for languages whose literature is currently under-represented in English translation.<\/p>\n<p>The languages are:<br \/>\n\u2022 Arabic \u2013 mentored by Sawad Hussain<br \/>\n\u2022 Faroese \u2013 mentored by Marita Thomsen<br \/>\n\u2022 Italian \u2013 mentored by Elena Pala<br \/>\n\u2022 Japanese \u2013 mentored by Polly Barton<br \/>\n\u2022 Korean \u2013 mentored by Clare Richards<br \/>\n\u2022 Lithuanian \u2013 mentored by Kotryna Garanasvili<br \/>\n\u2022 Polish \u2013 mentored by Sean Gasper Bye<br \/>\n\u2022 Languages of Singapore \u2013 mentored by Jeremy Tiang<br \/>\n\u2022 Mentorship for a chronically ill Translator \u2013 mentored by Annie Rutherford<\/p>\n<p>The programme is open to emerging translators at no cost to them. An emerging translator is someone who has published no more than one full-length work of literary translation. MFA and MA students in translation can apply, but priority may be given to those who do not have access to the kind of guidance already present in a translation degree programme.<br \/>\nThough English is the target language, the emerging translator need not live in the UK (apart from the mentorship for chronically ill translators).<\/p>\n<p>Apply now!<\/p>\n<p>The deadline for applications will be<strong> 11.59pm BST on Monday 26 August 2024. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To receive more information about the programme and know how to apply, please click on <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/nationalcentreforwriting.org.uk\/get-involved\/translators\/etm\/apply\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">THIS LINK<\/a><\/strong>.
