Streaming Documentaries #6. Arte Povera

We are delighted to share this project, curated in collaboration with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and Audiovisiva, the first digital platform bringing together and streaming the finest documentaries dedicated to the leading figures of Italian culture.

Arte Povera

The Italian art critic and curator Germano Celant coined the expression “Arte Povera” for his famous 1967 exhibition in Genoa. The term arose from the radical position that the artists were adopting in response to their dissatisfaction with the values established by the political, industrial, and cultural institutions of the time.

Marisa Merz, Giuseppe Penone, Luciano Fabro, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Fabio Sargentini, and Pino Pascali move before our eyes and tell us—with the immediacy of moving images—about the places where they lived, their ideas, their inspirations, and the many connections that characterize their practices.

Films in the sixth episode:

  • Intorno a Marisa. Le opere, gli amici, le parole di Marisa Merz, Italia, 2013, 25’
  • Memoria dei fluidi. Giuseppe Penone scultore, Italia, 2012, 59′
  • Luciano Fabro. Artista, Italia, 1997, 57′
  • Michelangelo Pistoletto, Italia, 2013, 54′
  • Tutto su mio padre Fabio Sargentini, Italia, 2003, 41’
