Naples and London: the capitals of tailoring

Screening of Migliarotti’s films O Mast and E poi c’è Napoli
Part of the project Partenopedia. At the Roots of Style
ICI London hosts one of four international events (the other ones taking place at the Italian Cultural Institutes in Brussels, Copenhagen and Istanbul) dedicated to the city of Naples on the 2500th anniversary of its foundation, the result of a collaboration between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and Kisgood Media. The event is dedicated to two of the greatest and most renowned tailoring schools in the world: the English one, whose roots lie in Savile Row, and the Neapolitan one, whose most ancient origins are found in the Confraternity of Tailors.
Savile Row, the celebrated street in the centre of London, has for centuries been an emblem of excellence in men’s tailoring and has given its name to a style recognised throughout the world. In Naples, the tailoring tradition has an equally long and prestigious history, whose roots go back to the Confraternity of Tailors, and which over time has developed a distinctive style capable of winning admirers on every continent. The meeting brings these two schools face to face, exploring their affinities, differences and mutual influence, in a dialogue that tells how two different cities and cultures have elevated the art of dressing to an expression of identity and artisanal excellence.
Taking part in the event will be Gianluca Migliarotti, director and author of two fundamental works on the history of Neapolitan tailoring, ’O Mast and E poi c’è Napoli, and Simon Crompton, journalist and editor of Permanent Style, a reference magazine in the international tailoring scene. Alongside them will be the curators of the Partenopedia project, Roberto di Stasio Lepre and Amalia Vergari.
In addition to comparing the English and Neapolitan tailoring schools, the meeting will also be an opportunity to present the broader Partenopedia project to the London public, strengthening the historical and cultural bond between Naples and the United Kingdom.

On the occasion of the 2500th anniversary of the founding of Naples, the Neapolis 2500 Committee celebrates the city with a wide-ranging programme of cultural initiatives.
Kisgood Media takes part in this journey with the creation of Partenopedia – Tales of Naples, a podcast dedicated to Neapolitan history and identity, and of Partenopedia 2500, a digital encyclopaedia that gathers content (photographs, videos, in-depth articles, books and podcasts) dedicated to the city of Naples.
Within this path is a series of four international events that Kisgood Media organises in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and four Italian Cultural Institutes (London, Brussels, Copenhagen and Istanbul).
