Streaming Documentaries #7. Italian Cuisine and the Territory
We are delighted to share this project, curated in collaboration with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and Audiovisiva, the first digital platform bringing together and streaming the finest documentaries dedicated to the leading figures of Italian culture.
Italian Cuisine and the Territory
These documentaries weave together three stories that illustrate what makes Italian cuisine unique: the ability to draw upon and interpret the richness offered by the territory, and the genius of those who managed to transform tradition into revolution.
A journey from south to north, moving from the Sicilian snow-houses (neviere), which for hundreds of years preserved ice and guarded the secret of gelato, to the ultra-refined culinary art of Gualtiero Marchesi, the world-celebrated starred chef, and concluding with the brilliance of Gianni Cosetti, the Friulian cook little known to the general public but considered by food critics to be one of the greatest Italian chefs of all time.
Films in the seventh episode:
- Il signore delle nevi. Storia delle neviere in Sicilia, di Nello Correale, 2015, 51’
- Gualtiero Marchesi, The Great Italian, di Maurizio Gigola, 2018, 59’
- Gianni Cosetti. Il ricercatore di cibi perduti, di Giampaolo Penco, 2019, 12’
