The Italian Cultural Institute in London is delighted to present a new film series showcasing some classic genres of Italian cinema. The series starts with Noir, followed by Western and finally  Comedy.  A  celebration of the variety of Italian cinema.

First in the series, (Un maledetto imbroglio)   The facts of murder by Pietro Germi, based on the novel That Awful Mess on Via Merulana by Carlo Emilio Gadda. A police detective and his team attempt to solve two crimes committed within a day of each other in neighbouring apartment rooms.

Pietro Germi (14 September 1914 – 5 December 1974) was an Italian film director, screenwriter, and actor, noted for his development of the neorealist and commedia all’italiana genres.  His 1961 film Divorce Italian Style earned him a Best Original Screenplay Oscar and a Best Director nomination at the 35th Academy Awards. Seven of his films competed at the Cannes Film Festival, with his 1966 comedy The Birds, the Bees and the Italians winning the Palme d’Or.

Nick Walker has worked in the film industry, is a film lecturer, programmer and host of film salon events in London and Rochester. Nick has a Master’s Degree in Film Culture.
