Design principles for building on boundaries

With Raul Pantaleo (Studio TAMassociati)
On the occasion of the London Festival of Architecture

The talk will examine the reasons, contexts and processes behind the completion of architectural projects in areas of civilisation, military and geographical boundaries such as Iraq, Afghanistan, Sudan, Senegal, Uganda.
TAMassociati will present their experience in working in such countries for Western NGOs, from coping with the geographical and socio-political conditions to the design choices, the difficulty of embarking on construction with the maximum possible use of local resources and having to take decisions that will impact on the future of lands already proven by war and strife.
The talk will thus take the shape of a “humanistic manual” that systematically organises indications and design principles for building on boundaries, seeking to define the common guidelines behind all these and future projects.
