What happens when public space stops being simply a place of passage and becomes a territory crossed by identities, desires and solitude? What form does solitude take when it encounters other forms of solitude? How does a collective body come into being?
La Plaza is a choreographic project that explores the ways in which bodies construct, share and transform public space. Starting from the square as a place of encounter, movement and coexistence, the project investigates how people inhabit and shape shared spaces through everyday gestures, relationships and collective practices.
Inspired by Wings of Desire (Der Himmel über Berlin) by Wim Wenders and by Fernando Pessoa’s heteronyms, La Plaza explores the relationship between the individual and the collective through the presence of a single performer. The dancer embodies shifting identities and traces of experiences, bringing out a plurality of perspectives within one body.
The audience is invited to engage with this space of plurality and to reflect on their own relationship with community, with others and with the shared spaces we inhabit. In La Plaza, the body becomes a place of encounter: a space where individual memories, presences and imaginaries intertwine to give form, even temporarily, to a possible collective experience.

South East Dance
South East Dance is a charity working in the performing arts sector, collaborating with dance professionals and communities across South East England to make the region a vibrant and inspiring place for dance.
We support dancers and artists working across all styles, from breakdance to ballroom, providing funding, tailored advice and networking opportunities at every stage of their professional journey.
Convinced of the benefits of dance for health and wellbeing, we are also committed to making movement accessible to as many people as possible, with particular attention to those who have never had the opportunity or confidence to engage with dance.
In 2022, we opened The Dance Space to the public. Located in the heart of Brighton & Hove, our modern dance and community centre, equipped with state-of-the-art studios, is the result of more than ten years of planning and work. We are delighted to welcome anyone who wishes to step through our doors.
