Allegra Gucci presents her book, recently published by Edizioni Piemme, in conversation with Francesca Griffiths

Proceeds from the book are donated to the Francesca Rava Foundation NPH UK – Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos

“The time has come to share my words not only with you, dear Papa. There is much to say. My truth, your truth, our truth. That story that has been waiting to come out for far too long.” The history of the Gucci family is an ancient one, in which great entrepreneurial successes are intertwined with painful family tragedies and sensational legal battles. In recent months, the story of Maurizio Gucci (grandson of Guccio, founder of the company; son of Rodolfo, who dedicated himself to the family company after leaving his career as an actor, and actress Sandra Ravel) and Patrizia Reggiani, of their meeting, their marriage, their divorce and the death of the former, in 1995, has been brought up to date by the film House of Gucci, starring Lady Gaga and directed by Ridley Scott.

Finally, now, after a lifelong silence, Maurizio’s daughter, Allegra, is speaking out. This book, sincere and poignant, through an imaginary dialogue between the daughter and her father, gives us the truth of Allegra. Of a woman who remembers, reflects and reprocess with extreme frankness the world of which she was born. The relationship with her father, yesterday and today; with her mother, who has been through a long imprisonment; with her grandmother, greedy and tyrannical; with the vultures and profiteers surroundings her life. The death of her father marked for Allegra the abrupt passage to a different dimension from the one, of extraordinary wealth, known until that moment. To the incessant suffering caused by such a great, unthinkable and violent loss, other pains were added: slander, gossip, judicial and media persecution.

NPH (Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos) has been transforming the lives of vulnerable children in Latin America and the Caribbean since 1954. We provide quality education, healthcare, nutritious food, emotional support and, if needed, a loving and safe home to disadvantaged children living in at-risk conditions in nine countries: Bolivia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua and Peru. The children are given the opportunity to develop their potential, shaping better futures for themselves, their families and their communities. NPH also offers vital out-reach services, particularly in the area of health. In Haiti, NPH operates St. Damien Paediatric Hospital, the only children’s hospital in the country, as well as essential outpatient facilities for children with disabilities. NPH UK has been working to improve the lives of children in the region since 2017, in partnership with Fondazione Francesca Rava/NPH Italy, a charity based in Milan that has supported children in Latin America, Haiti and Italy for over 20 years.
