FOSCO MARAINI. PHOTOGRAPHS BY A CITLUVIT
Curated by Lara Veroner and Sandra Romito
Start your day with a journey through the photographs of Fosco Maraini at the Italian Cultural Institute in London on the 14th of May at 10.00 am.
Join curators Lara Veroner and Sandra Romito for a morning of images, stories, and reflections, as they guide us through FOSCO MARAINI. PHOTOGRAPHS BY A CITLUVIT. This exhibition presents a visual exploration of Maraini’s work, featuring 70 photographic prints that offer a rich overview of this extraordinary Italian intellectual.
An ethnologist, writer, mountaineer, and academic, Maraini travelled extensively across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia from the late 1920s onwards, studying diverse cultures and communities. His photographs reflect the distinctive perspective of a “Citluvit” — Cittadino della Luna in Visita d’Istruzione sulla Terra (“Citizen of the Moon on a Study Visit to Earth”) — a term he used to describe his own curious and observant gaze.
This exhibition celebrates Maraini’s unique vision, capturing both the tangible and the abstract through his photography.
