On the occasion of the production of Vincenzo Bellini’s La Sonnambula by the HGO – Hampstead Garden Opera at Jacksons Lane Theatre (Highgate N6 5AA) from 6 to 15 November, ICI London hosts an introductory talk by music historian Dr. David Conway, followed by a performance of La Sonnambula’s most famous arias and a duet by singers Ayra Norman in the role of Amina and Tobias Campos Santinaque in the role of Elvino. Bellini’s La sonnambula is one of opera’s most enchanting works: a tender, luminous story of love and reconciliation, carried by some of the most beautiful writing of the bel canto repertoire. The HGO’s new production, directed by John Wilkie, and conducted by Stefano Boccacci, brings fresh theatrical and musical perspectives to Bellini’s extraordinary score. At once intimate, playful and deeply moving, La sonnambula explores how quickly trust can be lost — and the extraordinary power of love when it is restored.
