Piero Cannizzaro’s documentary narrates the stories of CinemArena, the mobile cinema initiative launched in 2002 by MAECI (Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation) and AICS (Italian Agency for Development Cooperation) which involves a caravan travelling through the most remote African routes in Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea, The Gambia, Nigeria and Sudan bringing outdoor cinema events to more than 200 villages. The aim is to promote an information campaign that demonstrates the risks of irregular migration: the arrival of the CinemArena truck convoy at the African villages offered the opportunity to talk to the people of the Countries of origin of migration flows on the risks that are met along irregular migration routes, aware that, even if some decisions must always be taken freely and respected, it is essential that a person’s decisions also be based on correct and truthful information.

Piero Cannizzaro is a director specialized in the documentary genre. He has signed documentaries for Rai and Arté dealing with various themes: from the southern Italy of Ritorno a Kurumuny (Return to Kurumuny), 2003 and the Taranta with La notte della Taranta e dintorni (The night of Taranta and around), 2004 to the dramatic life of a man in prison who dedicates himself to poetry and painting, Ossigeno (Oxygen), 2012 – the latter two documentaries are available on ICI London Vimeo Channel.
