The Italian Cultural Institute hosts the first in a series of dates with artist Elisabetta Benassi’s project EMPIRE, winner of the third edition of the Italian Council (2018) which, conceived by the Direzione Generale Arte e Architettura contemporanee e Periferie Urbane (DGAAR) of the Italian Ministry for Culture and Cultural Activities, aims to promote Italian contemporary art around the world.
EMPIRE is promoted by the Museo Nazionale Romano in collaboration with the Pontificia Accademia dei Virtuosi al Pantheon.
Elisabetta Benassi salvages and transforms material and symbols, thus exploring the relationship between the past and the contemporary, questioning the condition and the identity of the present. The project EMPIRE is part of this research, starting with the title itself, which inevitably refers to the Roman Empire and to its incessant political and cultural revision.
EMPIRE will travel from London to the Museo Nazionale Romano in Palazzo Altemps in Rome, the Mostyn Contemporary Art Gallery, Llandudno, the Museo Nazionale Romano Crypta Balbi, the Pontificia Accademia Virtuosi al Pantheon.
Please note: due to the nature of this installation, no more than 7 to 10 people max will be allowed to view it at any one time.
