2020 marks the centenary of Italian Modernist composer Bruno Maderna’s birth. A hugely influential figure in the post-war European avant-garde, Maderna’s music is playful, complex, and wonderfully expressive. To celebrate the centenary, Classical Remix commissioned the composer and programmer Daniel James Ross to create new responses to Maderna’s music using innovative machine-listening and algorithmic composition techniques. In the wake of Covid-19, the scheduled performance at the Italian Cultural Institute in London had to be postponed, and so Classical Remix will instead release the music as a digital record.
