UK Jewish Film Festival 2021

ICI London is pleased to support the 25th edition of the UK Jewish Film Festival, bringing the best of contemporary Jewish cinema from around the world, to a diverse range of UK audiences.
The wide range of feature films, documentaries and shorts, which reflect the diversity of Jewish and Israeli life and culture, include two Italian productions:

Thou Shalt Not Hate (Non odiare), by Mauro Mancini, which will be screened at the opening night gala on Thursday 4 November at 8,30pm at BFI, then available online from 11-13 November.

Inspired by a true story, this powerful and gripping tale, set amidst the tranquil beauty of northern Italy, explores the painful dilemma of a Jewish surgeon. Witnessing a hit-and-run accident, Simone rushes to save the victim’s life. Noticing the dying man has a swastika tattoo, he suddenly has second thoughts, and chooses to leave him to his fate. Haunted by guilt and painful memories of his relationship with his Holocaust survivor father, he decides to seek out the man’s daughter.

AND

A Starry Sky Above the Roman Ghetto (Un cielo stellato sopra il ghetto di Roma), by Giulio Base, which will be screened on Saturday 14 November at JW3, London and Home, Manchester, and available online from 13 November.

The discovery of a photo and a letter in an old suitcase prompts a group of Jewish and Christian high school students to learn about the fate of the little girl in the picture – and of the Roman Jewish community she belonged to. Bursting with youthful energy, this charming drama looks back at Italy’s dark war years while celebrating modern culture of coexistence, tolerance and interfaith love. A young film for all ages.
