We are delighted to host Trio Hérmes at the Italian Cultural Institute of London for a concert specially designed for the British capital.
The programme features the performance of two distinctly different works from the trio and a piano repertoire: the first composed by R. Schumann and the second by I. Pizzetti. The former embodies all the hallmarks of German Romanticism, with its formal rigour striving to contain the deep and visceral emotional intensity. In contrast, the latter embraces freedom in form and invention, perfectly aligning with the rhapsodic and kaleidoscopic nature of its musical material. This piece is rich with references to childhood and play, as well as the passionate lyricism characteristic of Italian tradition.
Despite their stylistic and character differences, both pieces are united by the spirit that pervades their composers during the creative process. Schumann speaks of the “joy” of composition, both in the moment of conception (“It’s my thirty-seventh birthday, I’m happy with Clara (…) and I’m thinking of writing a trio”) and upon its completion (“I’ve finished the trio – joy”). Similarly, Pizzetti composed his Trio in the year he married his beloved “Rirì,” to whom the piece is also dedicated.
