Book launch: Una giornata, by Alain Elkann (Bompiani)

The author in conversation with Marina Valensise, introduced by Katia PIzzi

Edmond Bovet-Maurice is sixty-eight, he is going to retire in two years. He is the Director of a prestigious museum, well-known and respected all over the world. His one aspiration is now to become a member of the Académie Française: and in order to fulfill this dream he has been networking gently but tirelessly with all the right people. But on a warm and humid day in May, in Paris, he feels the pressure on himself: he has put on a bit of weight; he mourns his previous relationship, and does not find solace in the new one; a mole needs medical attention; and most importantly, rumour has it that he will not get the coveted nomination, because of his mother and grandmother’s tarnished reputation.

Alain Elkann has written several books of short stories, non fiction and interviews with, among others, Chief Rabbi of Rome Elio Toaff, Cardinal Carlo Maria Martini, Prince Hassan bin Talal of Jordan, Alberto Moravia, Michelangelo Pistoletto. He has been a counsellor to the Italian cultural ministry, and the Chairman of the Egyptian Museum in Turin. Awarded the Legion d’Honneur by the French Republic, Elkann presently serves as President of the Foundation for Italian Art and Culture in New York and is a Professor at the University of Pennsylvania and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He is on the board of the Italian Academy of Columbia University.
