Curator’s Introduction: Parmigianino
The Vision of Saint Jerome
Thursday 6 February, 1pm at ICI London
ICI London is pleased to host a special lecture by Dr Maria Alambritis introducing the National Gallery’s current exhibition ‘Parmigianino: The Vision of Saint Jerome’.
This exhibition explores the creation of Parmigianino’s ‘The Madonna and Child with Saints’, also known as ‘The Vision of Saint Jerome’, which returns to public view for the first time in a decade, following meticulous conservation treatment. A masterpiece of 16th-century Italian painting, it was presented to the Gallery in 1826, just two years after our foundation.
The altarpiece is displayed for the first time alongside a selection of some of the most important preparatory drawings, tracing the development of Parmigianino’s unique final composition.
During this talk Maria will examine the artist’s creative process, from initial concept ideas to final designs, and delve into the mind of one of the most innovative artists of the Renaissance.
This session will be delivered in spoken English with British Sign Language interpretation.
Dr Maria Alambritis is the Project Curator for ‘Parmigianino: The Vision of Saint Jerome’ and specialises in 16th-century Italian painting. She was formerly the Vivmar Curatorial Fellow at the National Gallery and assisted on ‘The Credit Suisse Exhibition: Raphael’ (2022), and co-curated the Room 29 special redisplay ‘Venice: Bellini to Titian’. She previously held curatorial roles at the Royal Academy and Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery.
