Cinecittà, the world-renowned Italian film studios where Scorsese, Fellini, and Bertolucci, among others, have made their films, is bringing the best of Italian documentary to Bertha DocHouse this month. Italian Doc Season 2023 is a two-day showcase, running from 24-25 June 2023.
A nominee at DMZ Docs and Hainan International Film Festival, Il Posto (A Steady Job) by Mattia Colombo and Gianluca Matarrese is an Italian documentary about graduate nurses and healthcare workers in Italy who compete for just a few vacancies in their desperate search for a permanent job. Showing on Saturday 24 June, 4pm.
Svegliami A Mezzanotte (Wake Me Up at Midnight) by Francesco Patierno is a haunting yet beautiful tale of a new mother who attempted to end her life. Having miraculously survived a fall from height, she tries to unravel her story in order to understand it herself. Showing on Saturday 24 June, 6.30pm.
For decades, wherever people have fought against injustice, they have sung “Bella Ciao”, a song that has become a cry for freedom for generations in different parts of the world. Bella Ciao by Giulia Giapponesi is a documentary charting the song’s transformation from folk song to an Internet sensation. Showing on Sunday 25 June, 3.30pm.
