Webinar: Raphael then and now. Launch of Claudia La Malfa’s Raphael and Antique

Within the framework of #ItalyRestArt

The author will be in conversation with historian Ben Thomas and award-winning student Kostas Gravanis

Claudia La Malfa’s recent book Raphael and the Antique (Reaktion, 2019) takes us on a masterful journey through Raphael’s approach to antiquity.

‘Raphael’s compositions were highly appreciated for his mastery of representing the real world within the sphere of the ideal’ writes La Malfa. Raphael’s ‘greatness rested in the sublime synthesis of the naturalistic representation of mankind and the perfect proportions of the forms of classical art.’
