ICI London is thrilled to collaborate with The Photographers’ Gallery to organise a Special Talk about Viaggio in Italia at The Photographers’ Gallery on 25th of March 2025, at 6.30 pm.

Viaggio in Italia is the photography exhibition currently displayed at ICI London until March 28th. Curator Matteo Balduzzi and Adele Ghirri, responsible for Archivio Eredi di Luigi Ghirri (Luigi Ghirri Heirs Archive), will be in conversation with Tim Clark, Editor at the contemporary photography magazine 1000 Words and Artistic Director of Fotografia Europea.

The Talk focuses on the project conceived by Luigi Ghirri in 1984, considered a milestone in the history of contemporary Italian photography. It focuses on the vision behind it and the collaborative effort made by the groundbreaking photographers who took part in representing Italy and its landscape alongside its legacy nowadays. Additionally, for the celebrations of the 40th anniversary of the photographic project, the publishing house Quodlibet has issued the anastatic reprint of the original catalogue (Il Quadrante, Alessandria 1984), curated by Luigi Ghirri, Gianni Leone, and Enzo Velati, designed by his wife Paola Borgonzoni, and including an essay by Arturo Carlo Quintavalle and a text by Gianni Celati. This work is among the most significant in the history of contemporary photography and artist books and has now become a rare and collectible object. The volume contains a selection of 86 photographs out of the more than 300 featured in the historic exhibition.
